Spain’s automobile association has been raising important questions about environmental and energy issues in the sector with the EC.

Representatives of SERNAUTO, which represents the equipment and components industry,  met with European Commissioner for Climate Action and Energy, Miguel Arias Cañete in Madrid.

Its president, José María Pujol stressed they were keen to work towards strategies agreed for 2020 in association with the Spanish government and all those involved in the automotive business.

The association sees many challenges ahead in order to remain competitive and has a range of specific measures planned and various initiatives.

The challenges include increased cost competitveness, for example, with regards to energy and environmental sustainability.

SERNAUTO also shared concerns regarding the cost of complying with European directives on alternative fuels, taxation of energy products and vehicle emissions.

Arias Cañete was very interested in finding out more and said he would relay the concerns to the European Commission.
